Join me on the 24th March for a packed day of photographing the stunning Saddleworth Moors.
The Saddleworth Moors are one of the most dramatic and wild parts of the Peak District. Tucked away in the far north-west of the Peak District, you would think with its proximity to Manchester would make it a popular spot. However, head high up and you’ll more than likely not see anyone for hours. Don’t let this put you off though, just because it’s not busy doesn’t mean it’s not grand. Dramatic cliff edges rise above the reservoirs with a scale not seen anywhere else in the Peak District.
Alderman’s Hill is the most prominent hill in the area and the easiest to access. It’s shape dominates the skyline, especially from across the valley but a steady walk up of around 30 minutes will reward you with stunning views across Dove Stone and Yeoman Hey Reservoirs.
Dean Rocks is a seldom visited spot directly across from Alderman’s Hill but at this time of year makes the ideal sunset location. A vast array of rock formations lay scattered along its cliff edges and there’s even the Fox Stone Cairn which is a memorial to two local climbers who died in the Dolomites.
Throughout the day we will explore the area, especially around the reservoirs if they are calm or maybe head up the brooks to try our hand at some waterfall photography.
We will meet at 11:00 and work with the conditions for the day. The meeting point is to be confirmed at a later date as we may choose to visit Middle Black Clough waterfall on the Woodhead Pass as well.
We will break for lunch around 16:00. Due to the nature of this workshop, a packed lunch is recommended. If we have the opportunity we will look at post-processing on a laptop but may not always be possible as this is a more hill-based workshop with extended walking involved.
Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.
I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.
The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day.
There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
