Join me on the 20th January on a one-day workshop to follow in the footsteps of the ramblers who ultimately granted us our freedom today to our uplands. Without them we couldn’t visit half of the places we go to photograph nowadays. Walk the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass Walk with plenty of photographic opportunities during the day.

We will start at Bowden Bridge and head up to the plateau of Kinder Scout via William Clough. Once we are on top we will take a short break for some food and explore some of the viewpoints at the start of the Western Edges including the spot where I took my first award winning image.

We’ll then move along across Sandy Hey’s keeping an eye out for more photographic opportunities before finishing up at Kinder Downfall for sunset. The downfall is an awesome place for sunset and the sun at this time of year will be in prime position. With a tiny bit of luck the waterfall will be blowing back on itself. After sunset, there’s a fairly long walk back which should take us around a hour following Kinder Low and back down. If the group is comfortable, we can stick around to photograph the moon-like landscape under the full moon and make our way back down the dark.

This is a route I have walked many times, so you can be rest assured you are in good hands. This is also hands down one of my favourite routes and areas in the Peak District for photography.

We will meet at 09:30 to do a meet and greet with myself and the other photographers and from here head on up William Clough. We will break for lunch around 12:30. During this time of year, the light is good throughout the day and great images will be able to be taken all day. Sunset is at around 16:30 with around an hours walking back from Kinder Downfall.

This workshop is suited for all levels of photography but is especially great for those who want to explore some of our higher areas with a good working knowledge of their camera and have potentially previously been on one of my more traditional day workshops. This is a workshop about experiencing higher up places, the walking that comes with it and enjoying the scenery as much as the photography.

Please note, a good level of fitness is required as this is a hill walking day. The pace will be fairly slow and relaxed but the whole route is around 8 miles and in winter could prove trickier for some. Please don’t let this put you off, if you have any concerns please feel free to get in touch.

Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.

I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.

The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
