PHOTOGRAPH NATUAL AND MANMADE LANDSCAPES AROUND MATLOCK. NIGHT SHOOT OF THE STARDISC
WITH AUTHOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDEBOOK, PEAK DISTRICT THROUGH THE LENS
Meet at 15:00
Price: £95 per person (Deposit £40)
Join me on the 3rd July for a packed day of photographing the areas in and around Matlock.
Matlock is a hugely popular tourist area but hugely overlooked by photographer’s. However, it has so much to offer from some of the best waterfalls in the Peak District & Derbyshire through to dramatic gritstone escarpments, back to more rural barns and then other man-made structures such as Middleton Top.
The aim of the day is to explore some of these areas with the cherry on top of a visit to the Wirksworth StarDisc to capture some nighttime and lowlight images.
To start the day, we will visit Lumsdale to do some waterfall photography and practice long exposures. Lumsdale is the home to Bentley Brook, an impressive set of waterfalls and probably the best in Derbyshire and the Peak District. To boot, there are also abandoned Arkwright Mills surrounding the waterfalls giving you a sense of history of the place.
Next we will visit Middleton Top to photograph the old engine house to photograph that before quickly heading off to Black Rocks for our sunset.
Finally, we will head to the Wirksworth StarDisc after sunset to capture some night time shots of the disc. If it is clear we will look at photographing the night sky alongside the StarDisc, if it is cloudy then we will focus on taking images of the StarDisc and its surroundings.
We will meet to do a meet and greet with myself and the other photographers at 15:00 before heading to Lumsdale to capture the waterfalls.
We will break for food around 18:00 and if time allows, look at our images on a laptop to discuss basic processing techniques within Adobe Lightroom. The day will conclude quite late, around 23:30 depending on how we get on at the StarDisc.
Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.
I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.
The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day.
There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
