Ogwen Valley Photography Winter Workshop: Exploring Eryri’s Dramatic Beauty – 6th December
Join me on a captivating photography journey through the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) on December 6th. We’ll explore the stunning Ogwen Valley, capturing its dramatic landscapes, picturesque waterfalls, and serene lakes, all while enjoying the unique beauty of the winter light.
Why the Ogwen Valley?
The Ogwen Valley is a photographer’s paradise, renowned for its rugged mountains, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil lakes. This valley offers a diverse range of subjects, from the iconic Tryfan peak to the picturesque Llyn Ogwen and the enchanting Cwm Idwal.
Our Photographic Journey:
- Sunrise at the Pinnacles: We’ll begin our day with a breathtaking sunrise at the Pinnacles of Capel Curig, capturing panoramic views of Llynau Mymbyr and the Snowdon Horseshoe.
- Ogwen Outflow Waterfalls: Next, we’ll explore the Ogwen Outflow waterfalls, where the water tumbles dramatically under the A5 and the old Roman bridge. We’ll learn how to capture the beauty of moving water using long exposures and filters.
- Cwm Idwal: We’ll then venture into the heart of the Glyderau mountains, exploring the glacial Cwm Idwal. We’ll capture the serene beauty of Llyn Idwal, framed by the dramatic peaks of Tryfan and Pen-Y-Ole-Wen.
- Afon Lloer: If time and conditions permit, we’ll hike to Afon Lloer, offering cascading waterfalls and stunning views of Tryfan. This could be our sunset location, capturing the warm glow of the evening light on the surrounding peaks.
What to Expect:
- A Day of Discovery: This workshop is designed to showcase the diverse beauty of the Ogwen Valley, with a focus on capturing its unique character in the winter light.
- Accessible Locations: Most locations are easily accessible with well-maintained paths, making this workshop suitable for a range of fitness levels. However, we will be covering a total distance of around 4 miles, with some optional steeper ascents for those who are comfortable.
- Technical and Creative Guidance: I’ll be there to provide expert tuition and guidance throughout the day, helping you to develop your photography skills and capture stunning images. We’ll cover a range of techniques, including:
- Composition: Mastering the art of arranging elements within the frame to create visually compelling and harmonious photographs.
- Focusing: Ensuring your images are tack-sharp, capturing the intricate details of the landscape.
- Tripod Usage: Utilizing tripods effectively to achieve stability and maximize image quality.
- Filters and Exposure Blending: Exploring the creative possibilities of filters and exposure blending techniques.
- Working with Light: Understanding how to utilize natural light to evoke mood and enhance the beauty of your subjects.
- Weather Adaptability: The weather in Eryri can be unpredictable, but we’ll embrace the elements and adapt our plans accordingly. I’ll share my knowledge of the area and weather forecasting tools to ensure we make the most of the conditions.
- Relaxed and Supportive Environment: I foster a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where you can feel comfortable asking questions, experimenting with new techniques, and sharing your passion for photography.
