Join me on the 25th April for a packed day of photographing a great variety of subjects in the Dark Peak including the fantastic Bolehill Quarry, Padley Gorge and a sunset from Back Tor.

At this time of year, life starts to return to the trees and plants in the Peak District as we finally start to see some green in the landscape. While Bolehill Quarry and Padley Gorge are usually known for autumn colours, they are just as magical to capture with the start of new life.

We will visit Padley Gorge first to capture babbling brooks and tumbling waterfalls and look at using filters as well learning about long exposure. This is also a great opportunity to get to know each other and see where you are with your cameras technical knowledge.

Next, we will visit Bolehill Quarry which is a myriad of Birch trees and abandoned millstones where we could spend hours finding 1000’s of different compositions.

We will look to do a little more of an adventurous sunset over on Back Tor on the Great Ridge. In April, the Tor lights up with the setting sun and if we’re lucky we will have stormy skies to compliment it. The walk will be steady and isn’t too far (1.5 miles each way) but we will anticipate an hour for a really steady pace. This is the only moderate difficulty part to the day and along a really good path for the most part. If the weather isn’t looking promising we may alter our itinerary to something more suitable.

Upon booking you will be provided with a questionnaire to fill out which is a requirement of attending. I will also provide a recommended kit list and what to bring.

We will meet to do a meet and greet with myself and the other photographers at 13:00 before heading up Padley Gorge.

We will break for lunch around 17:00 and if time allows, look at some of my images on a laptop to discuss basic processing techniques within Adobe Lightroom. The day will conclude after sunset around 21:00. This time may be slightly later if you require transport back to the meeting point.

Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, using a tripod, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.

I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.

The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
