Lakes, Hills and Views in the Lake District Photography Workshop Weekend (September 17th to 19th)

New for 2021 and by popular demand, I will be running a 3 day long workshop in the Lake District designed around my style of photography, photographing gorgeous lakeside views low down, various waterfalls, easy access but high up grand landscapes and if the weather is really good, views from summits.

I have been visiting the Lake District as long as I have been doing photography, meaning I know it very well. When visiting, I always work with the weather and thats what we will do on this workshop, using our 3 days to put us in the best places at the best times. The days will generally be 8 hours long just like my normal workshops but if sunrise and sunset are both promising, then we may split it up a little just to allow for breaks.

My aim will ultimately be, especially for sunset to have us somewhere higher up on a hillside to capture a stunning view with beautiful golden hour light and as such, you will be used to hill walking and have experience in that kind of terrain. We won’t go super big with the mountains, choosing locations we should be able to get down within a hour after dark.

However, we will also take in other beauty areas of the Lake District such as at the lake side or waterfalls, these are particularly useful if the cloud is low or its overcast. We will have a real mixture for the whole weekend.

As you can see, we will be as flexible as we can for the whole weekend and enjoy the days at locations when they’re at their best.

For simplicity for everyone, you will provide your own accomodation and I would suggest Keswick as your base as this is a great starting point for us to travel on from.

What if the weather is poor? Don’t worry, unless it’s torrential all day, I have plenty of locations that suit a variety of weather. With 3 days to play with, we also heighten our chances of seeing good light. With my experience, you will still get to the best locations possible and you will still get some great images, for example waterfalls are brilliant for those overcast days. As we are in the UK, we see more grey than we do yellow and I am well adapted to getting us to the best spots if we need to change itinerary. This may even include chasing the light, with my knowledge of how the weather works in certain areas and using forecasts, webcams and other tools on the day to help us make those decisions, which I will share with you. We will spend a lot of time working on technique and composition and most of the day is designed to work up until that hopeful sunset so you have the skills to get the best you can at the end of the day. So even if we don’t get the weather or even that sunset you will have learnt a load of new skills, even if you are a more advanced photographer which you can take away with you and use on your next photographic outing.

The workshop is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you the most attention I can to help you achieve what you wish to. At the end of the course, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the weekend for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
