Join me for an immersive four-day photography workshop exploring the breathtaking and majestic landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the captivating coastal scenery of Anglesey, from the 17th to the 20th of September 2026.
Having spent a lot of my photographic career to exploring this remarkable region, I’m thrilled to guide you to some truly fantastic and awe-inspiring locations that I know intimately. This workshop has been carefully planned to include locations that are generally easy to reach or moderately challenging but achievable for most individuals. Of course, if the group is feeling particularly energetic and capable, we’re always open to venturing further afield to discover even more hidden gems!
Over these four days, we will immerse ourselves in the rugged and stunning mountain landscapes of Eryri, capture the dramatic beauty of its large waterfalls, frame serene lakeside views, and explore the captivating coastal locations of Anglesey, complete with its iconic lighthouses.
The workshop structure includes a full day of photography on the first day, followed by two more full days of exploration and image-making. On the final day, we’ll rise early to capture a memorable sunrise before checking out of our accommodation and continuing our photographic journey until approximately 1 pm, allowing everyone ample time with their cameras before a timely departure home on Sunday.
While I always prefer to keep our itinerary flexible to work with the ever-changing light and aim to get us to the most rewarding places at the most opportune times, the following provides a flavour of what we might experience. On our full photography days, we’ll typically be out for around eight hours. If we opt for an early sunrise shoot, we’ll often return to our comfortable cottage for a period of rest and relaxation before heading out again to capture the magic of sunset. I’ve specifically chosen September for this workshop, hoping for manageable golden hour times, settled weather conditions, and the atmospheric potential of mist (fingers crossed!). Plus, the ivy adorning the tearooms in Llanrwst should be at its most vibrant autumnal peak.
A Glimpse of Our Potential Itinerary:
- Day 1: Waterfalls and Rivers of Eryri: We’ll meet around 1 pm near Llanrwst and then embark in my vehicle to spend the afternoon and evening photographing the stunning local waterfalls and rivers. This might include the enchanting Fairy Glen, the impressive Swallow Falls, the iconic Tu Hwnt I’r Bont tearooms framed by the old bridge in Llanrwst, and the dramatic waterfalls nestled within the Ogwen Valley. We’ll take a break around 4 pm to check into our accommodation and drop off our gear before heading back out to continue shooting until sunset, which will be around 7:20 pm.
- Day 2: Anglesey’s Coastal Icons: Today is dedicated to exploring the captivating coastline of Anglesey and its three prominent lighthouses: the elegant Penmon Point Lighthouse, the dramatic South Stack Lighthouse, and the picturesque Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse on Llanddwyn Island. We’ll carefully plan our movements to coincide with the tide times, allowing us to capture the lighthouses in their stunning coastal settings. Due to the travel time between these locations, this will be a full day of approximately eight hours. If the opportunity arises on our return journey, we may also capture the majestic Menai Bridge illuminated in the beautiful blue hour.
- Day 3: Sunrise and the Ogwen Valley’s Majesty: We’ll have an early start today to capture the sunrise from the Capel Curig Pinnacles, a fantastic vantage point offering breathtaking views across Llynnau Mymbyr and towards the majestic Snowdon Horseshoe. After returning to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast, we’ll head out again in the afternoon to explore more of the dramatic Ogwen Valley. Our aim for the evening will be to photograph the sunset at Afon Lloer, a truly stunning location featuring small cascading waterfalls with the imposing peak of Tryfan as a dramatic backdrop.
- Day 4: Sunrise Reflections and Llanberis Exploration: We’ll rise early once more to capture the sunrise, perhaps revisiting a location where we had success or exploring a new perspective, such as the serene reflections at Llynnau Mymbyr. After checking out of our accommodation, we’ll extend our photography until around 1 pm. Depending on logistics, we might head towards Llanberis to photograph the iconic Lone Tree at Llyn Padarn before venturing up to the historic Dinorwic Slate Quarry to capture the atmospheric Anglesey Barracks and the panoramic views overlooking the vast Llyn Peris and Llyn Padarn.
During any downtime or if the weather happens to be particularly challenging, we can take the opportunity to delve into post-processing techniques. I’ll be happy to demonstrate my own workflow, sharing tips and tricks that will hopefully introduce you to new ways of enhancing your images. However, my priority will always be to get us out into the landscape and choose locations that are best suited to the prevailing weather conditions.
For this workshop, we’ll be staying in a lovely, well-equipped, and tastefully decorated spacious apartment in Llanrwst itself. With five comfortable bedrooms and three bathrooms, there will be ample space for everyone to relax. The apartment also features a large living and dining area, perfect for socialising and unwinding, as well as a comprehensive kitchen if you wish to prepare your own meals. While many participants often prefer the flexibility of self-catering, being in the town centre means that local cafes and restaurants are also within easy reach, keeping in mind our photography timings. The apartment also offers convenient amenities such as Wi-Fi, a washing machine, and a tumble dryer. Fresh towels, bed linen, and essential toiletries are all provided. The apartment has three double rooms and one twin room, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is somewhat limited directly at the apartment due to its central location, but there are several car parks within a short walk, including the CO-OP across the road which offers parking for a reasonable daily fee, and a free car park located just beyond it (accurate at the time of writing).
Upon booking your place, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing all the essential details, including meeting points, a recommended kit list, exclusive discount codes for photography equipment, and a pre-workshop questionnaire. This questionnaire helps me to understand your photographic experience and goals, allowing me to plan the workshop to best suit the needs and interests of the entire group.
Throughout our time together, I’m more than happy to discuss a wide range of photography techniques, from fundamental concepts like focusing and composition to more advanced methods such as exposure blending, focus stacking, and panoramic photography. I’m equally comfortable providing one-on-one guidance tailored to your specific questions and offering insights to the group as a whole, depending on what will be most beneficial for everyone’s learning journey.
My aim is to tailor the workshop around you as much as possible, and I’ll strive to ensure that each participant has the best possible experience. By the end of our four days together, I hope you’ll have not only captured some stunning imagery but also gained new skills and a renewed passion for landscape photography. Following the workshop, I’ll also send a follow-up email containing useful information, recommended photography apps, a list of the locations we visited, and links to my own YouTube tutorials on post-processing techniques. I pride myself on being a friendly and approachable tutor, and I encourage you to keep in touch with any questions that might arise after the workshop concludes. You’ll also gain access to my exclusive Facebook client area, a fantastic platform for sharing your images, asking questions, and connecting with fellow attendees from the workshop.
With a maximum group size of just four participants, you can be assured of plenty of individualised attention and 1-2-1 tuition throughout the workshop. I’ll be readily available to answer your questions and my primary focus will be on ensuring that you have the best possible time exploring and photographing the incredible landscapes of Eryri and Anglesey.
A non-refundable deposit of £200 is required to secure your place on this workshop, with the remaining balance due no later than eight weeks before the workshop start date.

Difficulty Description
The difficulty of this workshop is rated easy to medium, but your perception and prior experience will influence this. Please note this rating is specific to the workshop format (e.g., different from a hill-walking workshop).
While most locations are within a 15-minute walk from the car with returns in between, the terrain can include steep ground and mixed surfaces. Expect a combination of paved footpaths and stable natural trails with potential natural features like rocks, roots, and mud. We are unlikely to venture off well-used paths. Once at a photography location, we may briefly step off the main path, requiring extra caution regarding potential hazards (which I will point out; please ask if unsure). Over the day, you can expect to walk between 3 and 6 miles.
Please also be aware that one workshop day in the Ogwen Valley includes a 3-mile walk around Cwm Idwal. While generally well-pathed and family-friendly, some may find it strenuous. Please research this walk or email me if you have any concerns, as this location increases the overall difficulty of that particular workshop day.
