Peak District Through The Lens: A Day of Chasing the Light – 18th JulY
Come and join me on a fantastic, flexible photography workshop in the Peak District on July 18th! This day is entirely dedicated to chasing the best light and photo opportunities, no matter what the weather throws at us. Without a strict plan, we can explore different locations and truly make the most of the day’s conditions.
Who Should Come Along?
This workshop is perfect for anyone who loves photography, regardless of your experience level.
- Beginners: You are very welcome! We’ll have plenty of time to go over the basics, including camera usage, composition, and basic editing.
- Experienced Photographers: You’ll enjoy seeing my approach to choosing locations based on real-time conditions, and you can pick up new ideas and techniques while exploring new places with a group of like-minded people.
What Will We Get Up To?
We’ll let the weather and the light be our guide, ensuring we capture the Peak District at its most beautiful.
- Starting with Waterfalls:
- We’ll likely begin our day by visiting a beautiful waterfall. This is a great way to warm up and for me to understand your photography experience.
- Focus: We’ll practice essential techniques like capturing the movement of water with long exposures and using filters to control the light.
- Following the Light:
- After our waterfall warm-up, we’ll let the weather be our guide! We might head to stunning viewpoints with dramatic cliff edges or explore the hidden beauty of limestone valleys.
- The great thing about the Peak District is that many of the best spots are easy to reach, allowing us to be flexible and capture amazing photos quickly.
- Weatherproof Plans:
- If the weather isn’t playing ball, don’t worry! I have plenty of backup options that work well in different conditions:
- Visit the fascinating Magpie Mine with its industrial history.
- Explore the mysterious Nine Ladies Stone Circle.
- Discover the vast landscapes of Upper Moor or other hidden gems.
- I’m always ready to adapt and make sure we have a fantastic day of photography!
- If the weather isn’t playing ball, don’t worry! I have plenty of backup options that work well in different conditions:

Difficulty Description
Workshop Difficulty: Easy (with some considerations)
This workshop is rated as “easy”, and most people should be able to attend and complete it comfortably. However, it’s important to understand the terrain and walking distances involved.
Walking Distance:
- You can expect to walk between 3 and 6 miles throughout the day, with breaks between locations.
Terrain:
- Locations are generally within a 15-minute walk from the car park, with return trips between each.
- While some paths are paved, you’ll also encounter natural trails with stable surfaces. These may include rocks, tree roots, and mud, which are unavoidable features of the natural landscape.
- Some sections may involve walking over steep ground, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
Off-Trail Exploration:
- We may venture off the main path at certain photography locations. I will point out any potential hazards, but please be mindful of your footing and surroundings. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Key Points:
- While individual locations are relatively easy to access, the cumulative distance covered throughout the day can be significant.
- Please assess your own fitness level and comfort with walking over varied terrain before booking.
This workshop is designed to be enjoyable and accessible, but it’s important to be prepared for moderate walking and some uneven ground.
