Mawddach Estuary Photography Workshop: Panoramic Views and Coastal Delights – 15th June
Join me on the 15th of June for a scenic photography adventure along the stunning Mawddach Estuary in Snowdonia National Park. We’ll capture breathtaking panoramic views, explore diverse landscapes, and learn valuable techniques to enhance your photography skills.
Highlights of the Day:
- Precipice Walk: Our journey begins with the Precipice Walk near Dolgellau, a 5km (3-mile) circular trail offering stunning vistas. We’ll capture reflections of Cadair Idris in a tranquil llyn (lake) and photograph the classic viewpoint overlooking the Mawddach Estuary. We may walk all the walk if conditions are suitable but if not, we only have a 1km walk to the final viewpoint and over good ground.
- New Precipice Walk: Next, we’ll head to the New Precipice Walk, where panoramic views are easily accessible from the car park. We’ll capture the beauty of the estuary from a different perspective.
- Panorama Walk: Our final destination will be the Panorama Walk above Barmouth, offering breathtaking views back up the estuary towards Cadair Idris and the iconic railway bridge.
- Barmouth Beach (optional): If time and conditions allow, we’ll descend to Barmouth Beach to capture the dynamic coastal scenery, including sand dunes and crashing waves around the groynes.
Workshop Features:
- Suitable for All Levels: This workshop is designed for photographers of all abilities, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts.
- Varied Subjects: We’ll photograph a diverse range of landscapes, including mountains, estuaries, woodlands, and coastal scenes.
- Convenient Access: Most locations offer easy access with well-maintained paths.
- Post-Processing Introduction: During our midday break, I’ll provide an introduction to Adobe Lightroom and basic post-processing techniques.

- Daytime: Explore the Precipice Walk and New Precipice Walk, capturing stunning panoramic views.
- Midday: Enjoy a break for refreshments and a post-processing session.
- Afternoon: Continue our photography journey with the Panorama Walk and an optional visit to Barmouth Beach.
- Sunset: Capture the golden hour light at our chosen location.
Learning and Skill Development:
Throughout the day, I’ll provide guidance and instruction on various photography techniques, including:
- Focusing techniques: Learn how to achieve sharp focus in different situations.
- Tripod usage: Master the art of using a tripod for stability, sharper images and the benefit of slowing your workflow down to aid composition.
- Filters vs. exposure blending: Understand when to use filters and when to rely on exposure blending techniques.
- Composition: Develop your compositional eye and learn how to create compelling images.
- Working with light: Learn how to effectively utilise natural light to enhance your photographs.
