Why Choose a Residential Workshop?
Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding countless photographers through the Peak District’s diverse landscapes. Many participants have expressed a desire for a more immersive experience, with multiple days to explore and refine their skills. This residential workshop is designed to fulfil that need.
By taking care of your accommodation, I aim to remove the stress of planning and booking, allowing you to focus solely on photography and enjoying a relaxed and enriching experience. We’ll delve deeper into various techniques, explore a wider range of locations, and enjoy a good few days as a group.

A Photographic Journey Through the Peak District:
This workshop has been planned in the middle of heather season. We should be able to capture some fantastic landscapes with vibrant heather in full bloom. I will have a variety of locations to suit this time of year and we may also visit some other spots such as Mam Tor at sunrise. We will have some early starts and late finishes, if the weather is suitable but we will spend time back in the comfortable accommodation in the middle of the day when the light is at its harshest.
- Day 1:
- We’ll meet at 13:00 at Poole’s Cavern in Buxton, where we’ll get acquainted and discuss the exciting days ahead.
- Our first photographic destination will be Three Shires Head, a picturesque waterfall cascading beneath a historic packhorse bridge.
- Next we will head to the dramatic rock formations of Ramshaw Rocks.
- We will then check into our accommodation.
- As the sun begins to set, we’ll visit the atmospheric Roaches with heather lining the cliff edges.
- Day 2:
- Sunrise at Mam Tor and if conditions are favourable.
- After returning to the accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and some rest, we’ll head towards the Hathersage area.
- We’ll explore the stunning edges of Carhead Rocks and Higher Tor.
- Our final destination for the day will be Curbar Edge, where we’ll witness a spectacular sunset over the gritstone edges.
- Day 3:
- Sunrise at Chrome Hill before heading back to accommodation to check out for 10am.
- Next, we’ll head to Lathkill Dale to photograph the unique Tufa Weir, a testament to the area’s geological history.
- We’ll then aim to visit locations we haven’t managed to capture with the heather such as Burbage Rocks, Bamford Edge or Millstone Edge. Finish time is approx 13:00.
Flexibility is Key:
It’s important to remember that this is a flexible itinerary, and we may adjust our plans based on the weather conditions and emerging photographic opportunities. I’ll use my local knowledge, weather forecasts, and webcams to ensure we’re always in the right place at the right time to capture the best possible images.
