Why Choose a Residential Workshop?

Over the past 9 years, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding countless photographers through the Peak District’s diverse landscapes. Many participants have expressed a desire for a more immersive experience, with multiple days to explore and refine their skills. This residential workshop is designed to fulfil that need.

A Photographic Journey Through the Peak District:

We will be at the end of winter for this workshop and there is a real chance of any type of conditions, including snow. The light should also be good for most of the day and we will benefit from socialable sunrise and sunset times. Each day we will be out for approx 7-8 hours with a short break for breakfast and chill time before heading out again.

  • Day 1:
    • We’ll meet at 10:00 AM at Poole’s Cavern in Buxton, where we’ll get acquainted and discuss the exciting days ahead.
    • Our first photographic destination will be Three Shires Head, a picturesque waterfall cascading beneath a historic packhorse bridge.
    • We’ll then venture to the charming old barn above Wildboarclough, with stunning views towards Shutlingsloe.
    • Next we will head to the dramatic rock formations of Ramshaw Rocks.
    • As the sun begins to set, we’ll visit the atmospheric Roach End Barn and finally, The Roaches, for a breathtaking sunset shoot.
    • Check into our acccommodation after sunset.
  • Day 2:
    • Sunrise at Mam Tor and if conditions are favourable follow on with Winnats Pass.
    • After returning to the accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and some rest, we’ll head towards the Hathersage area.
    • We’ll explore the beautiful Wyming Brook, capturing its cascading waterfalls, before venturing to either Stanage Edge, Carhead Rocks or Higger Tor.
    • Our final destination for the day will be Curbar Edge, where we’ll witness a spectacular sunset over the gritstone edges.
  • Day 3:
    • Sunrise at Chrome Hill before heading back to accommodation to check out for 10am.
    • Next, we’ll head to Lathkill Dale to photograph the unique Tufa Weir, a testament to the area’s geological history.
    • We’ll then visit the fascinating Magpie Mine, capturing its industrial heritage and incorporating the vibrant seasonal flowers as foreground interest.
    • Our workshop will conclude at sunset around 6pm at somewhere like Hitter Hill, which overlooks a previous sunrise spot of Chrome Hill.

Flexibility is Key:

It’s important to remember that this is a flexible itinerary, and we may adjust our plans based on the weather conditions and emerging photographic opportunities. I’ll use my local knowledge, weather forecasts, and webcams to ensure we’re always in the right place at the right time to capture the best possible images.
