I had an excellent day with James at his December workshop in the Peak District. His local knowledge and willingness to drive us around the area made sure we made the best of the damp and misty conditions. James is a skilled and knowledgeable photographer keen to share his expertise, and I certainly learned at lot during the day. He's also a very nice bloke & very easy to get along with.

Ive Just had a very nice weekend in Anglesey with James photographing three lighthouses. I was aware of James's photography before I went and was expecting a good experience, I was not disappointed. James is quite a relaxed person which transfers to his teaching style. I was missing a few things initially but James soon put me right, including foreground in the image etc. I had a good day, lots of images to edit and food for thought regarding future photo trips. I would definitely recommend James and will be keeping an eye on his website for other trips in the coming year.

I spent 3 days with James on consecutive workshops around North Wales and Anglesey. He has an easy going style and is incredibly helpful and willing to share his expertise. I learned a lot about the settings on my new camera and was quickly able to put it into practice. James prides himself on his location knowledge and the timings were perfect. He also has a good nose for some great coffee shops!

I booked a day out in the Peak District with James last Sunday to photograph the area with the beautiful heather at this time of year. James was so helpful with regards to technical details like aperture, bracketing, exposure etc., and provided great guidance on composition as well as taking us to brilliant locations to make the most of the day. It was a small group of four and we all appreciated James's guidance, I'm sure I will be booking with him again. I would thoroughly recommend James to any amateur photographers looking for some guidance and help in locating great photo spots. Richard

The latest of a few workshops I've undertaken with James. As always, he chose a good variety of locations and provided expert tuition in composition and technical aspects of photography. Being taken by him to locations is a bonus. He has an excellent knowledge of the Peak District. Would definitely use again.

I've completed 2 one day workshops with James. Both were in the Peak District. One both occasion I found the booking process and communication ahead of the workshops easy and clear. James has a vast knowledge of the local area. On the first workshop he used this to adapt to bad weather and found us some great place to take photo's that matched the mood of the weather. On the second James took us to places that were off the regular tourist trails which was important on a Bank Holiday. I found James to be friendly and learnt a lot from him both times, I will be booking more workshops with him.

I've just returned from the Eryri (Snowdonia) workshop and had a super time. James is a great teacher. Not only does he know all the best locations, but he also spends ample time with everyone, can identify areas where you can improve, and makes suggestions to assist. No matter what your level of photographic skill, Ames's workshops are thoroughly recommended.

Went on the sunrise on Mam Tor workshop and, although the weather didn't play ball (clouds rolled in about 30 minutes before sunrise!), I really enjoyed the day. James showed us some great locations and was very helpful. His tips and advice really made the day, meaning that I feel more able to go and get a good sunrise image by myself in future. He keeps the group size small, which is great as it means everyone gets the same level of attention. Will definitely be booking another workshop next year!

My first time on any photography workshop so didn’t know what to expect. James was good with his pre workshop communication so understood our experience and what we wanted from the workshop. As it was my first time shooting landscape James took the time to help me on focussing, composition, bracketing and lots of other stuff. James made sure he gave all participants some time and we had a few locations to visit with varied views. James also gave us a short processing workshop during our “pub” pit stop and made sure we knew the basics for processing the photos we had taken. Overall a great experience in the Peak District and would fully recommend these workshops to beginners and enthusiasts alike. Thanks James

Thanks James for a really great 5 days workshop on Skye. I learnt so much and enjoyed every minute. Your planning and timing was spot on, a different location for sunrise and sunset each day plus numerous waterfalls in between. Thanks for driving us round this amazing island in the Yeti, perfect vehicle for the job! Also all the top tips and advice on composition, gear and post processing. It definitely has encouraged me to spend more time getting out with the camera and those early starts are so worth it! I did make a few purchases as a result of the workshop (thanks for helping with the discounts!) which have worked out really well. I love the new RF 14-35mm F4 lens. Would definitely recommend this workshop, thanks again!

Had a very enjoyable day with James on a 1-2-1 workshop in August. James took me to three great location and provides clear and helpful information about camera settings, filters, and composition. He really knew the area and adjusted the day to account for the weather conditions so I had the best opportunity to get some great shots. James also showed me how he post-processes his images, and provides a wealth of information about weather apps, which was very useful. Thank you James
