Are you looking for something more adventurous? Would you like to witness conditions that most people don’t get to see, and in turn, return home with enviable or unique shots? One of my wild camping photography workshops could be just the course for you. I offer wild camping workshops in the Peak District, Snowdonia and the Lake District. Courses booked through this page are 1-2-1 workshops and tailored to you. We will plan a trip around your ambitions and abilities to get you the best experience possible.

The workshop generally starts with heading up a hill or mountain in plenty of time for sunset and pitching ready for the evening. If there’s time and the route allows, we may shoot some waterfalls on the way up to practice techniques. We will not only look at photography techniques but also how to wild camp in the hills and the etiquette that comes with it. If conditions & time allow, we will look at some astrophotography and obligatory tent shots. The next morning we will be up bright and early to capture the sunrise, before heading back down.

These workshops have a major focus on sunset & sunrise so it is useful to already have a bit of camera knowledge. Some of our time will also be taken up learning how to wild camp too. If you are a complete beginner then a day’s workshop with me first may be more suitable but if this course really screams out to you, please get in touch and let me know your requirements. I would love to discuss and see if we can come up with a plan tailored to you.

Prices are just £300 for the Peak District & Snowdonia and £350 for The Lake District with a £50 deposit payable on booking.

If you would like to bring a partner, friend or family member, this isn’t a problem and a £50 fee will be required.

These workshops are generally run between March to the end of September. We will look at the forecasts before setting off to ensure a safe and suitable plan is made. For this reason it is recommended to have a couple of dates available in case of inclement weather, which will be advised on a couple of days before. Please note, as this course requires 2 days, it often helps if you can make weekdays or at least a Friday/Monday.

I also offer group wild camping workshops over multiple days. Please check out my workshops page for these.

Kit can be provided if you don’t have your own for a hire fee of £25, this includes tent, sleeping mat and sleeping bag. It is advisable for you to provide your own 65l+ backpack, which is suited to you. A deposit of £200 is required for any loan kit and will be refunded at the end of the trip if the kit is returned undamaged. If you wish to bring your own gear, I more than welcome this but please check with me first so we can determine whether it is suitable for the anticipated conditions.

Difficulty Description

Below is an explanation of the difficulty for the workshop. It will also largely be dictated by your own perception and previous experience in this kind of environment. The rating is a rough guide and in context to the type of workshop e.g. a hill-walking workshop moderate is different to a standard day workshop moderate. I have tried to explain more about the day in the description above also.

These workshops require a high level of fitness with the ability to carry a pack of around 20kg up mixed terrain. The walk could be up to 4 miles each way with 3000ft of ascent. Easier camps can be planned (within reason, staying within wild camping etiquette) if required. Please get in touch if you are unsure on the requirements or your ability.
