Join me for a day of exploring and photographing the stunning autumnal landscapes of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). Our carefully planned route begins in Betws-y-Coed and takes us through some of the most picturesque locations on our way to Llanberis.

Itinerary
Morning: Fairy Glen

Our day starts with a visit to the enchanting Fairy Glen, where we will capture the River Conwy flowing through its deep, moss-covered gorge. This location is best when dry, as the terrain can be slippery after rain, so please bear in mind we may not head here if I don’t think it’s safe.

Mid-Morning: Tu Hwnt I’r Bont Tearooms, Llanrwst

Next, we’ll stop at the iconic Tu Hwnt I’r Bont Tearooms, beautifully framed against the old stone bridge. Hopefully we’ll find the trees still glowing with autumn color, adding a rich warmth to our images.

Late Morning: Swallow Falls

A short drive takes us to Swallow Falls, an impressive cascade tumbling over multiple rock formations. This quick yet rewarding stop provides a fantastic opportunity to photograph the falls surrounded by golden leaves.

Afternoon: Llyn Peris & Dinorwic Slate Quarry

We then travel toward Llanberis, stopping at Llyn Peris to photograph the striking birch trees set against the slate steps of Dinorwic above the reservoir.

For our final location, we will either:

  • Explore Dinorwic Slate Quarry, focusing on Anglesey Barracks, an iconic row of abandoned cottages perfect for storytelling compositions.
  • Visit the Lone Tree at Llyn Padarn for a serene sunset shot, putting our day’s techniques into practice.
Skill Level & Accessibility

This workshop is rated easy/medium. Most locations are within a short walk from parking areas, but some terrain can be uneven and slippery, especially near waterfalls. Please ensure you have sturdy footwear and are comfortable walking on potentially wet surfaces.

Difficulty Description

The difficulty of this workshop is subjective and largely depends on your own experience and comfort level in outdoor environments. The rating provided is a general guide and should be considered within the context of this specific workshop. For instance, a moderate rating for a hill-walking workshop differs from a moderate rating for a standard photography workshop. Further details about the day’s itinerary can be found in the description above.

Difficulty Rating: Easy/Medium

This workshop is designed to be accessible for most participants, but it’s important to understand the terrain you will be navigating. Most locations will be approximately 15 minutes from the car, with returns to the vehicle between stops. However, some routes may involve steep sections and mixed terrain.

While some paths are paved, others are natural trails with stable surfaces that may include rocks, tree roots, mud, and other unavoidable features. We will primarily stick to well-used and popular paths, though at times, we may step off the main trail to reach the best photography spots. Extra care must be taken when navigating these areas, and I will point out any potential hazards. If you are ever unsure about a section of the route, please ask for guidance.

Although individual locations are relatively easy to access, the cumulative distance covered throughout the day may add up without you realizing it. Expect to walk anywhere between 3 to 6 miles over the course of the workshop.
