Kinder Southern Edges (September 14th 2024)
£40.00 – £125.00
Description
Want to photograph and explore the highest summit in the Peak District? Looking for a workshop with a little bit of a difference? Then why not join me in photographing the southern edges high up on Kinder Scout in the Peak District?
Kinder Scout is a mammoth of a mountain. Only just qualifying to be a mountain at 636m, this vast plateau is more akin to a large hill. That means there’s lot’s to photograph and one day simply couldn’t cover it all. There are so many routes and features that to walk around the edges it’s a 20 mile walk!
However on this workshop we will be taking a roughly 8 mile circular route from Barber Booth near Edale to capture some of highlights of this little section of Kinder Scout. We will initially ascend via Grindsbrook which is a classic route up on to the plateau. Around half way up there are some fantastic opportunities with waterfalls crashing over staggered rocks to practice some long exposures.
Once up on the plateau we will have a rest at Grindslow Knoll and maybe find some compositions. We will then head off along the edges making our way to Pym Chair which is past some of our other locations. At Pym Chair there are some fantastic formations we can explore.
We will then double back on ourselves heading to the Wool Packs and Crowden Tower which are a stones throw from each other. Working out compositions that suits the light on the day. Hopefully our final spot will be the Wool Packs which has probably the most gritstone formations I can think of in such a small area offering tonnes of photographic potential with different compositions for everyone. Crowden Tower also works well in the late evening light and the later the better, so we may be running between the two spots to capture them at their best. For best results, we will figure out photographic compositions on our first pass to allow us to set up quickly when needed.
This day is a photographic walk and as such you may walk up to 8 miles over hill walking terrain so hill walking experience and a good level of fitness is preferred. It is also a day where the might be less time on camera than one of my typical workshops as we will spend a lot of time walking between spots. We can chat about all things photographic (and not!) during this time but if you are newer to landscape photography you may wish to join a classic workshop with me on another date. This day is really designed to take people that bit further and explore new subjects where most workshops won’t go.
Upon booking you will be provided with a questionnaire to fill out which is a requirement of attending. I will also provide a recommended kit list and what to bring.
Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, using tripods, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.
I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.
The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.
There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.
There is a £40 deposit required to secure your place on this workshop with the balance due no later than 6 weeks before the workshop.
