Peak District Residential Photography Workshop (9th to 11th May 2025)
£200.00 – £745.00
Description
Join me in May 2025 for 3 full days of photographing the fantastic Peak District National Park including 2 nights in luxury self-catering accommodation at Foxlow Grange by Muse Escapes.
I have been running workshops regularly in the Peak District for the last 8 years and generally run two workshops back to back over a weekend. I have built up a regular client base and some clients decide to stay over and do the two full days. To aid with accommodation, I have decided to put on a 3-day residential workshop to take out the stress of booking your own accommodation.
I have booked two luxury apartments at Foxlow Grange by Muse Escapes in Buxton. Each apartment has all the facilities needed including cooking facilities and dishwasher etc. It also comes with towels, linen and toiletry essentials. We will have a private garden in one of the apartments as well. Both apartments have two bedrooms with at least a double sized bed, ensuring you get single occupancy accommodation.
The workshop is designed to run like most of my day workshops. Being in May, the days are fairly long with late sunsets so we will start approx 1pm and work until sunset at 9pm to get the best of the light. We will visit a different area of the National Park each day to photograph a variety of subjects. I have an intimate knowledge of the area and can get us to the best places at the best times. If the weather is looking favorable one morning, we can make an early start to capture the sunrise at Mam Tor and take some time off later that day. This will be a 4am start (at least) so a rest later in the day will be well needed.
I have planned to meet at 13:00 on the first day in Buxton. Our check-in is at 15:00 but to give us a full day out and about, we can meet before check-in, shoot a location or two, and return to check in later when we are ready.
As we have all the facilities to do self-catering, we can cook food in the apartments on our return or eat out, depending on what works best on the day for everyone. Buxton has plenty of shops, takeaways and restaurants so we won’t be stuck.
Below is a hypothetical itineary:
Day 1: Meet at 13:00 at Poole’s Cavern, Buxton. Head to Three Shires Head and photograph the waterfall under the packhorse bridge. Then head to the old barn above Wildboarclough looking to Shutlingsloe. Go back to the accommodation to check in and drop gear off before heading back out. Go to Ramshaw Rocks, Roach End Barn and finish at the Roaches for sunset.
Day 2: If conditions allow, do sunrise at Mam Tor. Very early start. Return back to accommodation for breakfast, R&R, sleep. Head back out and head over to Hathersage area. Visit Wyming Brook for waterfalls, go to Stanage Edge, Carhead Rocks and Higger Tor. Sunset at Curbar Edge.
Day 3: Check out at 10:00. We will work until about 18:00. Head over to Hitter Hill to capture the fantastic view across Parkhouse & Chrome Hill aka ‘The Dragon’s Back’, go to Lathkill Dale to photograph the Tufa Weir before going to Magpie Mine to capture more industrial shots with the seasonal flowers out as a foreground. Finish the day over near Thor’s Cave.
Upon booking you will be sent an order confirmation. email which includes meeting details, kit list, discount codes, and a questionnaire for you to fill out. This questionnaire just allows me to get information about you so I can plan the day appropriately for the whole group.
I run relaxed workshops that require flexibility. Our plans may change from the above and i’ll advise on a day-by-day basis what my plans are which will maximise our chances of catching good light & conditions.
Throughout the workshop we will look at basic techniques such as focusing, using a tripod, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and much more. We will also look at more advanced techniques as the week progresses and there will be plenty of processing sessions where we can showcase our images (if you’re comfortable) to each other.
This course has been listed as easy/medium difficulty but please read the itinerary closely below. Most locations are less than 20 minutes from the car. If you have any health concerns, please contact me for advice prior to booking. Please also check out the photo gallery and video below so you can see some of the locations we will be visiting and what to expect from your experience.
There is a £200 non-refundable booking fee required to secure your place with the balance due no later than 8 weeks before the start of the workshop. I have added the ability to pay the full workshop/balance via the website if you wish to use something like Klarna/PayPal Credit or your credit card.
