Rivers and Waterfalls of Eryri (June 29th 2024)

£40.00£135.00

Description

Join me on June 29th to spend the day photographing the rivers and waterfalls of North Eryri. This is a day aimed to practice long exposures and use filters. It is also a day a lot less dependant on the weather, in fact the more overcast the better!

Snowdonia or Eryri is full of amazing waterfalls and riverside scenes. We will start off near Betws Y Coed at Penmachno Bridge. This Roman Bridge crosses the River Conwy and its design and shape is very photogenic, especially with the dangling ivy. There are multiple options for your composition here.

After that, providing it is dry we will head to Fairy Glen to photograph this popular spot. A river running through the deep gorge is the perfect place to spend a few moments. There is often foam floating on the water really helping to add to the composition, creating long lines. This location is dependant on it being dry because it can be slippy in the wet. An alternative location is to head a little further to Llanwrst and photograph the old bridge with the ivy covered tea rooms across the river.

We will then head further down the valley over towards the Ogwen Valley or Llanberis depending on how we do for time. We have the option of the falls near Ogwen Cottage or we can walk further up to the waterfalls on the Watkins Path. The latter, while a little walk are truly stunning the crystal clear water cascading into blue plunge pools.

There is also Ceunant Mawr Waterfall in Llanberis which is an impressive waterfall but looks best after heavy rain to allow the falls to flow over the face of the rock.

Whatever the weather and conditions, I will ensure we head to the best spots to suit the conditions of the day.

We will also take a break around the mid-point of the day to grab a brew and have some food if needed. We will also take the opportunity to do an introduction to post-processing on my laptop.

Upon booking you will be provided with a questionnaire to fill out which is a requirement of attending. I will also provide a recommended kit list and what to bring. Please pay particular attention to required equipment as a certain level of appropriate gear is expected. The list won’t be conclusive but aimed to give you the best guidelines possible. Please take a common sense approach to your packing.

I have rated this workshop as medium. Physically it should not be too hard with most locations within 15 minutes of the car (except Watkin Path) but because waterfalls and rivers can be naturally slippy, you should be sure footed and used to this kind of terrain. Good grippy boots/shoes are essential.

Photographically throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, using a tripod, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.

I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.

The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.

There is a £40 deposit required to secure your place on this workshop with the balance due no later than 6 weeks before the workshop.
